This striking topographical map of Switzerland shows the routes taken by William Coxe between 1776-86. Coxe was an English historian and priest who traveled extensively throughout Europe as a tutor and traveling companion to various noblement. He accompanied Lord Hebert on his travels around the Swiss and French Alps, and subsequently published a detailed account of his journey. The table at top right lists the 13 Swiss cantons along with the subdivisions of each Canton, identifying which were Protestant, Catholic and of mixed religions.

A dark impression on a clean, bright sheet of watermarked paper. There are professional repairs to two tears that enter 5" into map at bottom right and less than 1" at left, and to separations along the platemark in the top and bottom blank margin.
