Striking, large-scale map on two joined sheets shows the area from the White Sea to the Ukraine filled with detail of the topography, roads, cities, tiny villages and even the nomadic encampments of The Great Nagay. Near the Sea of Azov at the bottom of the map is a fascinating note reading, In the Year 1685 ye Czars Army found certain Ancient Monuments near the place where Ptolemy places the Altars of Alexander. The decorative cartouche, based on Delisle, incorporates a Russian sleigh, a hunter, and wildlife with the coat of arms.

Full original color with light toning along the centerfold at left. There are archival repairs to a couple of short centerfold separations and to a number of short tears along the edges of the sheet, several of which just enter the map border. A large chip in the blank margin at top left has been replaced with old paper.
