Subject: Balkans
Period: 1912 (published)
Publication: La Vie Parisienne
Color: Printed Color
These two maps were issued in the October and November 1912 editions of La Vie Parisienne and present a satirical view of the First Balkan War. The war was fought between the Balkan League (Bulgaria, Serbia, Greece and Montenegro) and the Ottoman Empire. The Balkan League won rather decisively and captured all the remaining European territories of the Ottoman Empire. Each of the maps is filled with irreverent illustrations including bodyguards of the Sultan fighting with large scissors, destruction of a toy train set, and belly dancers on a Persian rug to name a few. The maps include:
A. La Guerre - Carte Generale des Balkans, Donnant le Detail des Operations Militaires de Toutes les Armees Depuis le Debut de la Guerre Jusqu'a ce Jour, by Pierlis (18.4 x 10.4").
B. Carte du Theatre de la Guerre - Dressee Specialement pour les Lecteurs de La Vie Parisienne, by G. Leonnec (8.3 x 10.8").
