This lot features eight lovely scenes based on the travels of Johan Nieuhof, Dutch traveler and authority on China, and Johann Grueber, the Jesuit missionary, astronomer, and explorer who ventured overland from Peking to the Indian state of Goa through Nepal and Tibet. The first sheet shows Nanjing on the Yangtze River. The second engraving is a striking scene in the court of the Emperor of China.
