A. Aphricae Tabula III, by Sebastian Munster, from Geographia Universalis, circa 1545 (13.7 x 10.1"). Classic Ptolemaic map of Northeastern Africa with convoluted mountain ranges, large lakes and rivers. An illustration of a sea monster devouring a man dominates the Mediterranean. A small table at top includes the names of the major cities in Marmarica and a larger legend at bottom notes the major cities in Egypt. Latin text on verso. Ref: Mickwitz & Miekkavaara #213-15. Condition: Light show-through of text on verso, a few faint spots, and two damp stains confined to the top blank margin. (B+)
B. Aegyptus, by Giovanni Antonio Magini, circa 1598 (6.8 x 5.0"). Attractive small map of the Nile valley filled with detail of the pyramids, cities, mountains, towns and oases. Engraved in the Italian style with a stippled sea. On a full sheet of Italian text measuring 7.8 x 11.5". Condition: A strong, dark impression on a clean sheet. (A+).
