This is the first Hungarian edition of Joachim Heinrich Campe's The Discovery of America, which was first published in German in 1781 as a trilogy, with three volumes focusing on Christopher Columbus, Hernan Cortez, and Francisco Pizarro. This Hungarian edition includes all three volumes in one, with three maps accompanying each of the explorers. The maps were all re-engraved in Hungarian for this edition by "Junker K" in Vienna. The maps are:

A. Mexico vagy Uj Spanyol Orszag (12.25 x 7.75"). A map of the southern United States and Mexico to illustrate the discoveries of Cortez. The region of present-day Arizona and New Mexico is well delineated with numerous Indian villages and the locations of missions. The area from New Mexico to Louisiana is named "Uj Mexiko" (New Mexico). The small settlement of Cenis is in Tecas, and "New Leon" appears near the Rio Grande River. An inset shows Mexico City on the large Lake of Mexico.
B. A' Mexikoi Tenger Obolnek, es azzal hataros szigetek s'Orszagoknak Rajzolatja (12.1 x 7.7"). A map of the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean to illustrate the discoveries of Columbus. The map is filled with place names, including New Orleans, Pensacola, and St. Augustine in present-day US.
C. Deli Amerika Rajzolatja (8.7 x 12"). A map of South America to illustrate the discoveries of Pizarro. The mythical lakes Parime and Xarayes still appear, along with spurious cartography throughout Brazil.

295 pp.; 280 pp.; 234 pp.; 3 maps. Original quarter leather with tips over mottled paper covered boards, with leather title label and raised bands on spine.
