This early, large-scale English map details geographic features, roads, ferries and towns in North Carolina. This is likely the first large-scale map after statehood in 1789. The map was engraved by William Harrison and was published in 1794 in the London (Stockdale) edition of Morse’s The American Geography, the first detailed compilation of maps focusing on the individual states and territories of the United States. Only three copies have been sold of record in the last 30 years.
