This rare bird's-eye plan of Cartagena depicts the fortified city with twenty-six locations identified in the numbered key. Fort St. Philip (Castillo San Felipe de Barajas) and the hospital are shown just outside the city walls. A compass rose orients north to the top right, and the decorative title cartouche features several boys next to a battery waving to a ship in the harbor.
