This lot includes 6 views and plans from Tindal's Continuation of Mr. Rapin's History. Nicolas Tindal translated Paul de Rapin's History of England into English shortly after the French edition's release (1724-1727), and would later add volumes covering the reign of James VI and I (1566-1625) to George I (1660-1727) which represent the "continuation." This group of engravings comes is focused on southern Europe and includes the following:
A. Plan of the City of Barcelona (19.0 x 14.2"). Condition: Light to moderate offsetting with a few stains in the left blank margin. (B)
B. Plan of the Town and Fortifications of Gibraltar, Exactly Taken on the Spot in the Year 1738 (22.9 x 13.5"). Condition: Light offsetting with a few short fold separations. (B+)
C. Plan of Turin as Besieged in 1706 (18.6 x 14.3"). Condition: Light offsetting with a 3" tear along the right fold that has been archivally repaired on verso. (B+)
D. An Exact Draught of the Bay and Harbour of Vigo (18.5 x 14.1"). Condition: Light offsetting with a small fold separation and tiny chip in the top blank margin. (B+)
E. Plan of the Works of the City of Messina, One of the Strongest and Most Considerable Cities of Sicily, and a Fine Sea-Port (18.8 x 14.2"). Condition: Light offsetting with a 2" fold separation at the top of the right fold. (B)
F. Draught of ye Bay of Bulls Between the Town of Rotta and Fort St. Catherine, Under the Command of His Grace the Duke of Ormond... (14.9 x 17.8"). Condition: Light toning and offsetting with a fold separation at left. (B)
