Henrich Scherer, a mathematics professor and Jesuit, produced this work to emphasize the extent of Catholic influence in the world. This map of the eastern Mediterranean extends from Crete and southern Turkey to Cyprus and the Holy Land. A large religious title cartouche is featured prominently in the center of the map.
