A handsome engraving of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon as described by Herodotus of Halicarnassus (c. 484–425 BC), known as the Father of History. The Hanging Gardens are attributed to Semiramis, the legendary wife of King Ninus. This engraving was first published in the 1592 edition of Herodotus’ Histories, edited and printed by Henry II Estienne in Geneva. This example was included in a composite atlas of Braun & Hogenberg views.
