This extremely rare chart of Hispaniola shows the Windward Passage, the important shipping lane between Cuba and Hispaniola that connects the Caribbean Sea with the Atlantic. The chart extends to show parts of Cuba, Jamaica and the Bahamas, and is from a pirated Irish edition of the English Pilot by George Grierson. The map is a close copy of the Mount & Page 1732 edition, and differs from it in the placement of text, as well as a general lower quality of engraving. The map is decorated with a small compass rose and a handsome cartouche.

A nice impression on a sturdy sheet with light toning and soiling and some scattered foxing at far left.
