This lot includes 5 plans from Tindal's Continuation of Mr. Rapin's History. Nicolas Tindal translated Paul de Rapin's History of England into English shortly after the French edition's release (1724-1727), and would later add volumes covering the reign of James VI and I (1566-1625) to George I (1660-1727) which represent the "continuation." This group of engravings is primarily focused on Belgium and includes the following:
A. Antwerp a Strong, Large, and Beautiful City on ye River Scheld, in the Dutchy of Brabant, Subject to ye Queen of Hungary (19.0 x 14.9"). Condition: Trimmed to the neatline at top and inside the neatline at bottom.
B. Newport a Strong Sea-Port Town in Flanders, Restored to the Empire by ye Treaty of Utrecht (18.6 x 14.3"). Condition: Trimmed to the neatline at top.
C. Plan of the Situation Where the Battle of Ramillies Was Fought May ye 23d 1706... (18.5 x 14.4").
D. Plan of the Glorious Battle of Hochstet Gained by the Allies on August 13th. 1704 (14.9 x 18.2").
E. Lisle a Strong and Rich City in the Earldom of Flanders, Taken by the Allies in 1708, and Restor'd to the French King by the Treaty of Utrecht (18.8 x 14.2"). Condition: There is a small fold separation at lower right that just passes the neatline.
