This handsome and rare Portuguese map shows the Tras-os-Montes e Alto Douro province, which has been described as the "corner of the corner of Europe." It was engraved by Lisbon-based Joao Silverio Carpinetti for his book Mappas das Provincias de Portugal. The map depicts topographical details from the mountainous region and identifies the Douro and Tua rivers. Several towns and villages are named including Vila Real, Mirandela, Chaves, and Braganca. There is a decorative title cartouche at bottom right.
