This detailed map of the eastern United States folds into Thomas Baldwin's A Universal Pronouncing Gazetteer.... The map extends as far west as Ft. Leavenworth, with a small sliver of Texas appearing at bottom. It names several towns and cities and locates canals and railroads (both completed and in progress). Indian tribes are identified throughout, with an unnamed portion of present-day Minnesota simply labeled Sioux Indians. An inset at bottom right zooms in for a closer view of New England. The book is the third edition of Baldwin's extensive listing of various places all over the world, with basic information, pronunciations, and population figures for each entry. 648 pages. Hardbound in quarter calf over brown cloth with gilt title on spine.

The map is folding as issued with light offsetting and narrow margins. A tiny edge tear at left has been closed with archival tape. Text is lightly toned with scattered foxing along the sheet's edges. The hinge is starting, the covers have light wear, and there is a small chip on the front cover.
