This pocket map of the state is intricately detailed, with counties subdivided into individually colored townships. Despite the 1870 date, the county configuration is current to 1867. There is great detail of the state's railroads and canals, and coal mines are identified as well. Given the level of detail shown, the map would have been ideal for travelers passing through the state at the time. The map is surrounded by an elaborate decorative border. It folds into embossed cardboard covers with gilt titling across the front (3.7 x 5.7").
