This is Ortelius' second map of the ancient Kingdom of Valencia. Presented in his strong engraving style with a stipple engraved sea, the map is embellished with large strapwork cartouches, a sailing ship and a galley. The map is oriented with north to the right and is filled with detail of hundreds of villages. The cursive lettering for Maris Mediterranei Pars distinguishes this plate from the first plate. French text on verso, published in 1598.
References: Van den Broecke #30.
Condition: A
A sharp impression on a clean, bright sheet bearing the horn watermark commonly found on Ortelius maps. There are a couple of small worm holes in the image at top that have been professionally infilled, and a manuscript page number is below the neatline.
