This lovely panoramic view depicts the city of Speyer with the Rhine River in the foreground. Sixteen buildings are identified in a numbered key below the map, including the large Dom Kirche with its four towers that loom over the city. This view first appeared in Johann Ludwig Gottfried's Neuwe Archontologica Cosmica that was published by Matthaus Merian in 1638, and then reappeared in volume 13 of Merian's Theatrum Europaeum in 1698.
