Oriented with north to the bottom, this map shows parts of Novaya Zemlya and the northwestern coastline of mainland Russia, illustrating the Waeigatz Strait (Kara Strait). Several rivers and place names are noted along the coastline, although the only city noted is Pitsora (Pechora). The map is decorated with spouting whales, sailing ships, and two compass roses. This map was published in Jean Frederic Bernard's Recueil De Voyages Au Nord, which described the explorations of Linschoten and Barentsz in the Arctic in the 1590s.
