This is an uncommon, re-engraved Italian version of Nicolas Sanson's last map of North America (1666). It presents California as an island with an indented northern coastline, which is labeled Nuovo Albion. The Great Lakes cover most of Nuova Francia and are open-ended in the west. The R. di Nort flows westward from a large lake in Le Apaches country, and empties into the Gulf of California. This unusual map is not listed in Burden, McLaughlin, or any other of the North American references we consulted.
