This intricately detailed map shows the volcanic island of Ischia in the Gulf of Naples. Mount Epomeo and surrounding mountains are prominently shown in the center of the island. Throughout the island, there are numerous small illustrations of windmills, villages, and castles, including the famous Aragonese Castle, built by Hiero I of Syracuse in 474 BC. The nearby island of Procida is also depicted. This is a later state of the map without the large inset of Elba. Instead, there is more detail of the coast of the Campania region. A note on the region appears in a cartouche at bottom right. There are two more decorative cartouches containing the title and a distance scale. Sea monsters and ships fill the Gulf of Naples, and a compass rose orients the north to the bottom. Latin text on verso.
