Exquisite and scarce large-scale map flanked by eighteen meticulously engraved vignettes of people, animals, plants and scenes representing the commerce and industry in the regions. The map shows impressive detail of caravan routes, colonial possessions, mines, forts and known topography. The Monts de la Lune, or the Mountains of the Moon, are shown. These fabled and mysterious mountains are the Ruwenzori mountain range, that feed the sources of the Nile with their unusual equatorial snows.

Nice original outline color with a few minor spots of foxing. There are some damp stains at the top and bottom, just shy of the border, which have been reinforced with archival tissue. There are a some tiny tears and creases in blank margins, not affecting map.
