John Leighly's rare classic reference on the island of California was published by the Book Club of California. It includes an in-depth 40-page essay on the history of the great cartographic myth, twenty-five black & white plates, and a checklist of 182 maps that feature an insular California. One of only 450 copies printed at the press of Robert Grabhorn and Andrew Hoyem in San Francisco. Rebound in blue paper covers. 154 pages.

Contents very good with some very minor extraneous creasing and a hint of printer's ink residue at the very edges of some pages. Covers have light shelf wear, and there is residue from a label that has been removed from the front cover.
