This map of ancient Holland depicts the Island of the Batavians and the Canal of Domitius Corbulo. This is one of several maps of the 16th-18th centuries that illustrate the theory that there was a link between the Dutch and the Batavians, who were thought to be a very developed people inhabiting parts of the Rhine Delta in Roman times. Decorated by a simple block-style title cartouche and distance scale on a plinth.
