Glen McLaughlin's contribution to the carto-bibliography of maps featuring the mythical island of California has become the definitive reference on the subject. It lists 249 maps, with an additional six in celestial charts, seventeen on title pages, and one on a silver medal. It is indexed by title and by name, including cartographers, engravers, and publishers. Most of the entries are accompanied by black and white illustrations. 134 pp. plus appendices, bound in soft pictorial covers. Condition: Contents tight. Covers have minor shelf wear.

This terrific book on the island of California is illustrated throughout with detailed reproductions of historical maps, and combines history, geography, and cartography with literature and fantastic mythology. 8vo, hardbound in burgundy cloth with gilt titling on spine and a dust jacket. Condition: Contents and covers very good with minor sunning on the dust jacket.
