This handsome title page is a very early chromolithograph by P.S. Duval. It shows Columbus and his crew giving thanks to God for their safe journey while natives watch in the background. From an early edition of Desilver's atlas, which was previously published by Samuel Augustus Mitchell and Thomas, Cowperthwait & Co.

There is light offsetting and a damp stain along the right side of the sheet, away from the image. A few small chips along the left sheet edge are confined to the far blank margin.
