This map was published at a time when many territorial borders were in transitory configurations: Washington extends to the Rocky Mountains, truncating both Idaho and Montana; and Arizona extends west to incorporate the southeastern corner of Nevada, which is shown in its narrowest configuration. An inscription reads, "Engraved & Printed in colours by J. Bartholomew, Edinburgh."
