An attractive view of the Washington Monument looking northward, as originally conceived by Robert Mills. Mill's final design removed the colonnade structure at the base due to a lack of funds. Construction of the monument began in 1848, but was not completed until 1884 due to funding issues, the Civil War, and bureaucracy. Issued on a full sheet measuring 8.7 x 11.5".
