This uncommon and detailed map covering upstate New York was published with William Henry Harrison Murray's Adventures in the Wilderness; or, Camp-Life in the Adirondacks. "Adirondack Murray's" book was a key text of the 19th century conservation movement and led to a wave of tourist interest in the region. The map extends from the eastern edge of St. Lawrence and Herkimer counties, east to Lake Champlain and western Vermont, south to Stony Creek, and north to Grand Isle. There is good detail throughout including political boundaries, towns and villages, roads, railroads, lakes and watershed, and mountains in hachure. Map drawn by W.W. Ely, M.D. Published in Boston by Fields, Osgood & Co.
