This sheet includes two spectacularly engraved maps, first issued in 1584. The first map shows Denmark, based primarily on the work of Cornelis Anthoniszoon, who is credited in the cartouche at top right. The map is filled with place names but with limited watershed and topographical information. The seas are fully engraved in stipple. The right-hand map depicts the a portion of Lower Saxony based on the work of Laurens Michaelis, whose imprint appears at bottom right. The map is centered on Oldenburg with excellent detail of the extensive network of rivers. Embellishments include several sea monsters and sailing ships. French text on verso. This map is less common than Ortelius' other maps as it only appeared in the Theatrum between 1584-98.
References: Van den Broecke #85.

A sharp impression on paper with the horn coat of arms watermark commonly found on Ortelius maps. There is light toning along the edges of the sheet and an old manuscript page number below the map at right.
