Ortelius based this handsome map of the Umbria region of Italy on Egnatio Danti's 1580 map of Perugia. Centering on the city of Perugia, the map captures the region in intricate detail, with rivers, bridges, mountains, and Lake Trasimeno illustrated, and many towns depicted as miniature castles. The map is adorned with an elegant strapwork title cartouche, and a blank cartouche in the top left corner. French text on verso.
