This map was published by Adolf Baedeker in Rotterdam. His older brother, Karl, was the founder of the Baedeker travel guide with whom he published several books. The map is color-coded to show the colonial possessions of the English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, and Germans. Detail is confined primarily to the coastline with some information on the larger rivers and lakes in the interior along with the Sahara Desert in the north.
