This map was drawn by Colonel Theodore Bingham, who headed the Office of Public Buildings and Grounds (including the White House). Bingham was tasked with improving the area between the Washington Monument and the Tidal Basin, and this plan represents some of his proposals. The map is filled with thoughtful designs for gardens, nurseries, drives, athletic fields, and also locates the Washington Monument. At center is the Tidal Basin which is home to the National Cherry Blossom Festival.
