This 143 page report, written by Colonel Langfitt of the Corps of Engineers, examines the water supply for the District of Columbia. At the time, water consumption was nearing capacity and additional sources needed to be considered. Langfitt explored adding capacity at both Great Falls (Potomac River) as well as the nearby Patuxent River, and ultimately recommended new capacity at Great Falls. His recommendation also included adding hydro-electric power capacity for the District. The 64 folding plates that accompany his report include a wealth of supporting information including detailed maps, plans, diagrams, drawings, and more. Of particular interest are plates 15 through 35 which show individual land ownership along the Potomac River, which were likely to be impacted by his proposal. The report and plates are housed in an attractive slipcase with original string tie.

The folding maps are very good with uniform light toning, and most appear to have never been open before. Report text is clean, bright and near fine. Ex-library cloth slipcase is very good with minor soiling, light wear, and a partial string tie.
