This pocket map of the state was issued only months before West Virginia formally seceded from Virginia. County configurations are current to the date of this map, with Bland County having been formed from Giles earlier in the year. Highly detailed, the map presents towns, cities, railroads, canals, and wagon roads. Includes inset maps of Richmond and Norfolk at top. Folds into red cloth boards (3.5 x 4.9") with gilt title on the front cover.

Issued folding with light toning, minor staining, and a 4" fold separation and tear at lower left that has been closed on verso with old tape. There is a large chip confined to the lower decorative border, and the boards are worn and stained.
