A nice lot of four maps covering South America's eastern coast from just above Georgetown, Guyana to present-day Uruguay including Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. The first two maps primarily show coastal detail with the interior region noted as being unknown and the domain of the Tapuyas Indian nation. The second map also includes the Amazon River and extends south to the Bay of All Saints in Salvador. The third and fourth maps continue along the coastline to the mouth of the Rio de la Plata, and provides more information on the interior. All maps are adorned with a decorative title cartouche featuring scroll, flower, and leaf motifs.
A. Carte de la Guyane, pour Servir a l'Histoire Generale des Voyages, dated 1757 (12.5 x 9.1"). Condition: Issued folding with light toning and a few small dampstains that just touch the bottom border. (B+)
B. Carte du Bresil, Prem. Partie. Depuis la Riviere des Amazones Jusqu'a la Baye de Tous les Saints... (12.6 x 9.3"). Condition: Issued folding on watermarked paper with a few small dampstains confined to the bottom blank margin. (A)
C. Suite du Bresil pour Servir a l Histoire Generale des Voyages (6.8 x 9.3"). Condition: There are a few faint spots and a light dampstain in the bottom blank margin. (B+)
