This superb map of France has minute detail and is beautifully engraved and embellished. Sailing ships, sea monsters, and an elaborate compass rose fill the sea. The royal armorial at upper right is balanced in the opposite corner with a title cartouche representing the rich bounty of the land. French text on verso, published between 1639-49.

Full contemporary color with light toning and soiling, some color offsetting, and an old manuscript page number at top right. Two short marginal tears have been closed on verso with masking tape, and a long centerfold separation at bottom and tiny adjacent tear have been archivally repaired with old paper.
