This map of Indonesia focuses on the topography of the islands, with place names mostly confined to the coastlines. The Cocos Islands are depicted just below the map at left. Drawn and engraved by Daniel Veelwaard, Jr. and issued by the "Maatschappij tot nut van't Algemeen" (Society for Public Welfare), an organization established in 1784 in the Netherlands to promote and improve education among the general population.
