This uncommon map of the Persian Gulf was prepared by d'Anville as part of a lecture to the Academie des Belles-Lettres. It extends from the Shatt al-Arab delta to the Strait of Hormuz and features rhumb lines, islands, banks, and some anchorages. There are place names along the coasts, including Abadan, Bandar Bushehr, Bandar Abbas, and Julfar (Ras Al Khaimah). Bahrain is shown, but Quatar is nowhere to be found; there is a note where it should be that says that particular stretch of coast is unknown. Five distance scales appear beneath the title.
