This handsome map of the whole of South America is based on Ortelius. The great southern continent, Terrae Australis, stretches the length of the map at bottom. A large galleon sails the Pacific, and a sea monster ornaments the Atlantic, along with a strapwork title cartouche. Stipple engraved oceans and strong engraving make it a very attractive map. Engraved by Quad, it includes his initial "Q" at bottom right of title cartouche. The imprint of Johan Bussemacher, who published several of Quad's works, appears at bottom left. German text on verso, published in 1600.
