These lithographs are from Leon de Laborde's important work detailing his expedition from Cairo to Petra via Mount Sinai. The first image shows the tombs of Serabit el-Khadim in the Sinai Peninsula, where turquoise was mined by the ancient Egyptians. The second engraving depicts Saint Catherine's Monastery located at the foot of Mount Sinai, and one of the oldest working Christian monasteries in the world.
