This lot consists of five maps related to the Pacific Electric Railway including:
A. Special Sightseeing Map of Los Angeles and Vicinity, by Tanner Motor Tours, Pacific Electric Railway and Catalina Island Company, circa 1932 (23.6 x 17.3"). This untitled bird's-eye view of Los Angeles by W. Calkins looks from the south with Catalina Island in the foreground, Los Angeles at center, and Mt. Lowe in the background. The map legend describes five trips that are highlighted in red overprinting on the map. The verso contains related text and illustrations. Reference: cf. Rumsey #12082. Condition: There are a few small fold separations and some minor loss of the word "Artesia." (B+)
B. Route Map Los Angeles Railway Electric Car and Bus Routes, by H.P. Noordwal, dated 1935 (17.1 x 22.5"). A map of Los Angeles with a legend identifying the Los Angeles Railway, Los Angeles Motor Coach Company, and the Pacific Electric Railway. The verso has an interesting “Aerial View and Map of Downtown Area” (17 x 8") showing car routes along with a detailed index. Condition: There are a few tiny fold separations and some light soiling to the wrappers. (B+)
C. Lines of the Pacific Electric Railway in Southern California, by D.W. Pontius, dated 1912 (15.9 x 10.6"). This map shows the evolving network of the Pacific Electric Railway. The main rail line connected the cities of Los Angeles and San Bernardino, with spoke lines going to the coastal cities, the San Fernando Valley and the Inland Empire. Drawn by D.W. Pontius. Verso contains related text and illustrations. Condition: A clean and bright example. (A)
D. Birdseye View of Mt. Lowe California, by the Pacific Electric Railway, dated 1913 (10.9 x 6.9"). This little bird's-eye view shows the route of the Pacific Electric Railway to the Mt. Lowe Tavern with red overprinting identifying hiking/horseback riding trails in the region as "no visit to the mountains is complete without a trail trip." Related text on verso. Condition: Near fine with minor soiling on wrappers. (A)
E. Mt. Lowe Tavern and Cottages, by Pacific Electric Railway, circa 1931 (4.0 x 9.1"). A promotional brochure for Mt. Lowe with small maps and illustrations throughout. Includes rates and schedules with a round trip fair from Los Angeles priced at $2.00. Condition: Near fine with minor wear to paper wrappers. (A)
