This wood engraving shows the vicinity of Savannah from Tybee Sound to Fort McAllister and Ossabaw Island. The well laid-out and orderly city is the hub of several roads, canals and railroads. The plan was drawn after General Sherman captured the city in December of 1864. According to the article below the map, it emphasizes the "capabilities of the place for military fortification." There are illustrations on verso. Size is of the map; sheet size is 10.7 x 16".
