This attractive map presents the continent with Sanson's characteristic attention to detail. It updates Sanson's map of 1650 with a more accurate rendition of the watersheds throughout the continent. However, the mythical Lac de Parime still appears with the legendary Manoa el Dorado (city of gold) on its western shore. There is considerable detail of towns and cities and the capitanias are delineated along the coast in Brazil. The large decorative title cartouche is flanked by two pretty maidens.

Condition: A
A fine impression with contemporary outline color on paper with a large coat of arms watermark, a hint of offsetting along the centerfold, and marginal damp stains. There are archival repairs to an edge tear that enters 1" into the map border at right and a short centerfold separation at bottom.
