This congressional report concerning the occupation of the Columbia River stated that the United States had title to "a very large portion of the coast of the Pacific Ocean" and that no "other government than Spain has made claim to any part of it, from Cape Horn to the sixtieth degree of north latitude." Given the vast natural resources and trading opportunities with the Indians, the report concluded "by a new organization of the system of Indian trade, comprehending a settlement on the Columbia River, that great benefits would result to the citizens of the Republic." The bill was ultimately endorsed by the select committee. 15 pages, disbound, and uncut on two sides. A scarce item with no past sales records and OCLC shows only three institutional copies.
