This fascinating French geography book was first published in 1715 by Giffard, and was republished multiple times until 1805. It contains 18 folding maps: World, Europe, France, Low Countries, Switzerland, German Empire, Rhine, Italy, Spain & Portugal, Britain, Scandinavia, Poland, Turkish Empire, Greece, Asia, Middle East, Africa and the Americas. Both the world map and the Americas map show the island of California. The map of the Americas also shows the great Southern Continent (Terre Australe) and places the Solomon Islands and New Zealand far too close to South America. The book is written in a unique "question and answer" format. Mottled calf, spine gilt with raised bands and tooling, with title-label lettered in gold, and marbled endpapers. 413 pp., title page, preface, table of contents, and 18 maps.

The maps are mostly clean and bright with occasional minor soiling, mis-folds, and light offsetting on a couple of maps. There is a previous owner's signature on title page. The front hinge is starting, the covers are worn with some abrasions, and there is cracking on the spine.
