This map depicts the Anglo-Russian invasion of the Netherlands as part of the War of the Second Coalition of the French Revolution. From 27 August to 19 November 1799, British and Russian troops joined forces to invade North Holland with the goal of neutralizing the Batavian fleet and inciting an uprising against the Batavian government. This map focuses on the Battle of Alkmaar with depictions of the positions of the Anglo-Russian and Gallo-Batavian troops shown and explained in a key at top right. The map gives excellent detail of the roads, towns and topography of North Holland.
