This is a compact facsimile of the quarto edition of Thomas Hariot's important book on Roanoke Island, originally published in 1588. A mathematician, astronomer, ethnographer, and translator, Hariot ventured to the New World in 1585-86, producing from his firsthand experience the first original English book about the first English colony in the New World. His understanding of the Carolina Algonquian language and his observations on the native's culture proved influential to future explorers and colonists. This facsimile features an introduction by Randolph G. Adams. One of only 500 copies. 48 pp. Hardbound with illustrated covers showing sections from De Bry's map of Virginia. Includes a green cardboard slipcase with a label reading "The Quarto Hariot's Virginia."
