This commemorative plan of Wilmington, Delaware was created by Franklin Beal and published by John Gilbert Craig, Inc. It was issued in conjunction with the 300 year celebration for the city and presents the street-grid pattern with numerous buildings identified with decorative scrolls including the Swedish Monument, Old Swedes Church, Town Hall, and Sign of the Ship Tavern to name a few. The map is surrounded by a scroll border filled with historical portraits, sites, events, seals, and coat of arms. The title cartouche is dedicated to Spencer Compton, Earl of WIlmington, and an elaborate compass rose orients north to the top left. Signed by Beal at lower right and noted as number 179 from this "limited first edition."
