This is a beautifully engraved and finely detailed double hemisphere map. Strapwork borders enclose an armillary sphere, compass rose and the names of the four elements. The map features the island of California with only a ghost of a coastline continuing to the northwest. Terra Australis has a broken coastline and a notation that ends with the signature of the engraver, Abraham Goos. Four lines of Latin text balance the title cartouche at bottom. French text on verso.
